The atlas and the manuscript, on one desk

Build the world.
Then write the book inside it.

Your characters, maps, history and chapters live side by side, so the world you invented on page 12 is still true on page 400.

Reader mode for novels

AI is optional. It shows what it costs, and nothing it suggests goes into your world until you accept it.

Signing up means you agree to the Terms and the Privacy policy. Atlas & Ash is for people 13 and older, and anyone under 18 needs a parent's or guardian's permission.

What's on the desk

Everything a long book leans on, where you can reach it

Writers keep their world in six places: a notes app, a spreadsheet, a folder of maps, a timeline on the wall, the draft, and their memory. This is one place.

A desk made for long books

Chapters in parts, scenes with their own point of view and setting, daily goals and a streak. Earlier versions of each chapter are kept, so you can go back.

A codex that asks what an editor would

Profiles shaped to each kind of entry. For a character: want, need, wound, the lie they believe, how they talk. For a faction: its seat, its methods, its secrets.

History that keeps count

Eras and events in your own calendar. Give someone a birth year and the app knows their age in every chapter.

Maps worth printing as endpapers

Coastlines, ranges and rivers drawn from your codex, from one valley up to a whole planet, a star system or a galaxy. Any place can hold a map of its own.

Continuity while you write

Timeline slips, the dead still acting, two names that read alike on the page. The structural checks cost nothing and run as you go.

Ready for the printer

Print-ready Word at your trim size, standard manuscript format for agents and EPUB. On paid plans, Covers builds a full cover wrap with the spine measured from your page count.

For readers

Read a novel with its world beside you

Reader mode builds a companion for an EPUB you are reading. The app reads it one chapter at a time and builds the cast, the places, a map and a timeline, each held back until you reach the page that reveals it.

  • It knows where you are

Set your chapter or page, or just scroll. Every person, place and event after that point stays hidden, down to the paragraph.

  • Tap a name to remember who that was

Characters you have already met are underlined in the text. One tap shows what the book has told you about them so far.

  • The map fills in as you travel

Places appear on the map when the story reaches them, and the timeline and the connections between characters grow with each chapter.

  • Your book stays yours

The EPUB file is never uploaded. Each chapter goes to the AI once to be read, and only the notes about its world, the chapter titles, the cover picture and your reading place are saved, privately.

  • Works with DRM-free EPUBs, such as Standard Ebooks and many indie and small-press titles. Books bought through Kindle, Kobo or Apple Books are usually locked. Building a companion uses one AI credit per chapter, plus one for its maps.

Inside every world

A world, page by page

Each world you start gets these pages, and they all read from the same codex. Change a name, a date or a coastline once and every page sees it.

How it works

From a blank page to a printed book

  1. i.

    Start small

Answer a few questions and get a starter world with gaps left for you, begin with nothing but a title, or bring in a manuscript you have already started.

  2. ii.

    Write

Open the desk. Name a character, and their facts and age appear beside the page.

  3. iii.

Grow the world as the book asks

Add places and watch the map redraw. Date the history. Connect who serves whom and who betrayed whom.

  4. iv.

    Finish

Check continuity, then export the manuscript, the world bible and the cover wrap.

AI when you ask for it

Every AI action shows its cost before it runs. Suggestions arrive as a list you tick through, and the voice notes in your World settings apply to every draft. Typing it yourself is always free.

Your work leaves with you

Export any time: Word, EPUB, Markdown, a formatted world bible, and a world file for a backup or a co-author. The world file is the complete copy; the Markdown export holds the text and the codex.

Pricing

The atlas, the desk and the AI, with nothing extra to set up

Every plan has the whole writing desk, the codex, maps, history and exports. Paid plans add Covers and share links. AI is built in, so there are no keys to set up and no second bill from a model company. Plans differ in how many worlds you can build, whether Covers and share links are included, and how many AI credits you get each month.

Early access: billing has not opened yet, and every account has the Writer plan free until it does, whichever card you start from. We will email you at least 30 days before billing opens, and nothing is charged without your agreement.

Author

For heavy drafting, art and revision.

$19 a month

500 credits: paint 100 portraits and chapter images and develop 200 entries in a month.

  • Everything in Writer
  • 500 AI credits a month for portraits, chapter art and developing entries

Prices in US dollars. Most AI actions cost one credit: developing an entry, an answer from the Loremaster, a continuity check by the AI, one chapter read in reader mode. A picture costs three. A starter world, a generated history and each part of notes read into the codex cost two; bringing in a manuscript is free. A book's maps in reader mode cost one more. Every action shows its cost before it runs, and asking for exactly the same thing again is free unless you choose to run it fresh. Credits refill at the start of each month (UTC) and do not carry over.
